Ben & Jacques Charlier
Ben Vautier (1935–2024), a leading figure of the Fluxus movement and conceptual art, is known for his incisive and ironic “writings,” in which he questions art, the ego, and society with radical humor.
Jacques Charlier (born 1939), an unclassifiable Belgian artist, subverts the codes of contemporary art through satire, parody, and institutional critique, blurring the boundaries between seriousness and derision.
Their encounter, in the 1970s, sealed a complicity around humor and provocation—two shared languages that each would use in their own way to challenge the conventions of the art world.
