Miaz Brothers

Miaz Brothers, Roberto (1965) and Renato (1968) from Monza, Milan, have an eclectic artistic background. In 1996, they created installations on genetics in Milan, avoiding traditional art galleries, and collaborated with brands like Adidas and Nike. After a stint in Paris working with Diesel and Kenzo, they focused on painting while traveling through South America and Southeast Asia.
The duo uses aerosol spray to symbolize the ever-changing, fragmented nature of human existence, composed of an infinite number of constantly evolving particles. The blur effect created by this technique has become their signature, encouraging the viewer to rely on memory rather than immediate visual interpretation. While their work is diverse, their favored subject is portraiture, which raises questions about the transient nature of existence. Their "Anti-Matter" series perfectly exemplifies this artistic pursuit.
They developed a unique approach to portraiture with this series, exploring various subjects, from portraits of friends to iconic figures. In 2008, they moved to Amsterdam, then Valencia, and finally London, where they were represented by Steve Lazarides. Their innovative use of spray paint, producing a blur effect, became their hallmark. After the pandemic, they continued their work, and in 2022, Munich's Museum of Urban and Contemporary acquired two of their pieces, highlighting the impact of their contemporary art.
